When contemplating the rough and perfect ashlars it is important to see all that is between them. We start with the rough shape at the center of our lives. We must hew and chip, testing the nature of things. As we shape the situation, we must be aware of the form of perfection we are striving for. The closer something comes to completion, the more precise the work and more definite the shape becomes. Mistakes are magnified. Our options become fewer, until the full impact of our creation is all there is. Beauty or ugliness, utility or failure comes from the process of shaping.
