“in thy light shall we see light” Psalms 36:9

theworkingtools:

“Striking hearts that have long been cold, this spiritual ray raises them from the dead. It is the living light which illuminates those still buried in the darkness of materiality. It is the power which raises by the strong grip of the lion’s paw. It is the Great Light which, seeking forever the spark of itself within all living things, reawakens dead ideals and smothered aspirations with the power of the Master’s Eternal Word. Then the Master Mason becomes indeed the Sun in Leo; and, reaching downward into the tomb of crystallization, raises the murdered Builder from the dead by the grip of the Master Mason.” Manly Palmer Hall, The Lost Keys Of Freemasonry

The tiny, initial clue … by allowing us to imagine what we do not know, stimulates a desire for knowledge.

“The Vernal Equinox occurred on March 20, a day celebrated by the ancients and many traditions to this day. It is the first day of the New Year where day and night, darkness and light are in perfect balance. The days/light will continue to lengthen until we reach the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year when the sun is at its zenith.

This is traditionally a time to let go of the cold of winter and to plan what will be grown in the rest of the year. It seems very apropos to what our Lodge is experiencing; letting go of the past and behaviors that did not serve the purpose of attaining light and becoming better men. A time for renewal and new growth, the seeds we now sow being that of Brotherly Love.

As the trees begin to blossom, once again cloaking themselves in fresh greenery, and the wild flowers carpet the hills in color we should look forward to what we wish to plant and grow for our Lodge. The past is but the thread from which the rich tapestry of who we are today is woven; a place to visit to garner lessons that will become the soil in which our Masonic values grow, our rituals the trellis that supports this growth. As the crocus which penetrates the snow in search of the light of spring, we should pierce the shadows that have occupied our Lodge at times and actively reach for the light

In the spirit of spring, I beseech each of you to leave the darkness of the preceding year behind and to focus your efforts on sowing the seeds of light and brotherly Love that will allow each of us, individually and as a Lodge, to become better men, reaching for the light as the poppy that unfurls its orange petals in the light of the vernal sun. It has been said that if that which you seek you can not find within, you will never find it without. The light that we seek is within each of us, and now that the Universe is in balance it is a perfect time to search for that light. We are blessed to live in a place where we can enjoy the light of the Universe in the sunrises over the coastal hills and the sunsets over the ocean. Let these be reminders to explore the light within.”

The Deeper Symbolism of Freemasonry from The Meaning of Masonry by Walter Leslie Wilmshurst.

“In Masonry that prototype is Hiram Abiff: but it must be made clear that there is no historical basis whatever for the legendary account of Hiram’s death. The entire story is symbolical and was purposely invented for the symbolical purposes of our teaching.” [via]
